P.O.P. Eye

Here’s one of the new projects I’ve been working on. I had an idea in my head of making a robot with lots of round surfaces. I wanted him really “bubbly” looking and cartoonish. He went through several iterations before I finally decided I needed to move on.  I’m not completely satisfied on how he turned out and like most of my projects I will probably come back and revisit it.  However, I’m trying to adopt the “finished – not perfect” mentality. We’ll see what wins out.

With the big arms he reminds me of Popeye. So I’ll have to come up with an acronym for P.O.P.

The body was made from various sized plastic Easter eggs. (His belly looks too egg shaped actually I tried to disguise it). The head was the cap of something. Hairspray maybe? And the backpack was from a body soap cap cut in half. I used Aves Apoxy Fix-It to build up the “skin” on his body.

For his legs and feet, I used various parts to build up one set and then made casts for the other. It was fun and I really enjoy making molds and casting my own parts. Except for air bubbles…I hate that part.

His arms/guns are made from the tops of a couple of electric toothbrushes. For one of the guns I used the cap off a child’s fruit drink. I love the shape of it and it fit perfectly in the toothbrush cap. Inside that I added the cap from a bottle of dish soap. Again it had a great shape and fit perfectly. (Bottle caps are great parts to use in builds. They come in so many shapes and sizes. I love them!) Parts from the arts box were added for the details and tops where the guns meet the arms/elbows. Again for the arm I made one and then cast a duplicate.

I need to add some more details here and there and some panel lines.
